Recovery must restore the rightful operator without creating a second object; the duplicate must fail while leaving the valid record intact; and expiry must remove access without erasing history. A separate visual review will confirm that the object shown to the operator matches the record, because ownership loses trust when the image, label and custody state describe different things.
