Binance said on October 30 that a security incident had an estimated total impact of about $6.3 billion. It temporarily suspended withdrawals while keeping deposits available, and said company funds, including SAFU, would cover user losses. The exchange first cited a compromised laptop, then said its investigation had found multiple breach points. In a later update, Binance said roughly $3 billion had been frozen and reported no evidence of a private-key leak. These are Binance’s preliminary findings: its promised post-mortem was not available at the cutoff, so the attack path and final loss remain unresolved.
