NEAR Intents Isolates Security Incident from NEAR Mainnet

NEAR said its blockchain and native token were not vulnerable, while the Intents service attributed the loss to an interaction bug and promised reimbursement.

NEAR Protocol said on October 1 that the NEAR blockchain remained operational and that the NEAR Intents incident did not arise from a vulnerability in the protocol or native NEAR token. Its statement said blocks and transactions continued with no downtime. A separate Intents statement, reproduced by Digital Asset, attributed the incident to a bug between Omni deposit-and-withdrawal infrastructure and an Intents smart contract and estimated the preliminary loss at about $3.8 million.

The Intents operator said the affected contract was patched, users would be reimbursed and some chain deposits and withdrawals could take longer to restore. Those are attributed incident-response claims, not an independent audit or final loss accounting. The announced detailed report remained pending at the review cutoff.
