Venice’s private API changes the cost question, not the need for data controls

Venice-related discussion compares private model access through an API with the cost of buying and operating local hardware. That is a deployment-economics comparison, not evidence that one arrangement is always cheaper or more private. Local operation carries hardware and maintenance costs; hosted access requires attention to request logging, retention and the location and terms of processing. A private endpoint is a service boundary, not proof that no intermediary can retain a request. The useful choice depends on workload and enforceable data conditions, not merely on the model label.
