Starknet Vote Opens Post-Quantum L1 Research Phase

A joint StarkWare–Starknet Foundation group will study an independent L1 after a non-binding vote; no transition has been approved.

Starknet Foundation said a non-binding community poll closed on October 22 with 93.52% of voting power supporting research into whether Starknet should become an independent, post-quantum Layer 1. A joint StarkWare–Starknet Foundation working group has started studying the technical requirements, trade-offs and implications for users and builders, and plans to publish its findings in the governance forum.

The result does not approve a migration away from Ethereum. Starknet says any move would require completed research, detailed proposals and further community votes. The research will examine whether independence could remove post-quantum dependencies inherited through Ethereum settlement, bridging and data availability, but the future consensus design, security model and transition path remain undecided.
