Rising Gas Forces a Closer Look at Each Test

Final Form’s early concept had just taken an auto-battler direction, and the team still had to consider whether technical experiments could keep pace with its design discussions. A-Zhen was interested in on-chain records from the engineering side, but the studio was still preparing the game, and every test carried a cost.
ETH rose above $1,000, and gas costs climbed with it. Deploying a single test contract cost more than a dinner. Rather than deploy every idea still under discussion, A-Zhen worked with colleagues to separate questions that needed an on-chain test from those they could first answer with a paper flow or local demonstration.
The expense made the order of experiments matter. The team could continue discussing how cards might be identified and held, but first needed to say what each test was meant to answer. A-Zhen planned to return unclear questions to the design discussion so an expensive test would not end with another vague conclusion.
