Background: After Final Form received the main share of resources, card illustrations became a bottleneck in refining the prototype. Art production could not keep pace with discussion, so design and art needed a way to increase output without losing a consistent style.

Today: A new artist joined, doubling the team’s capacity for card illustrations. The team first introduced her to the existing card concepts and visual references so everyone would not start drawing in a different direction. Meanwhile, design began organizing a priority list of cards to illustrate, so the added capacity would not be scattered across disconnected requests.

Impact and next steps: The art team can now fill in illustrations for the prototype faster, but producing more does not automatically ensure consistency. Next, the team needs to see whether the new and existing artists’ styles work together and sequence the art according to playtest needs.
