The fifth anniversary of May 19 fell on another quiet trading day for the Xai community. The Night Watchman had spent years in the group and now also operated a node. For him, staying meant deciding every day which messages needed immediate attention.
The Night Watchman said, “I had only just entered the market that year. I'm still here.” Someone asked whether he had grown used to days like this. He did not present endurance as a victory; he said he had learned to check whether the node needed care before reading the group's arguments. On the anniversary, he also wanted some time away from the screen.
His “still here” connected his entry that year with today's watch, without promising anything about the future. He planned to write a checklist for stepping away, then discuss mutual cover with an operator he knew. Whether they could arrange it would depend on the other person's time.
