A Bank Box Secures the Backup, but Access Needs a Plan

A few days earlier, Sisyphus had moved XAI from the exchange to a self-custody wallet and taken responsibility for the recovery phrase. Keeping the backup close made it easy to reach but also easy to misplace during a move or a cleanup. Sisyphus settled on a safe-deposit box at a bank in the south of town.

Sisyphus sealed the wallet backup in an envelope, cycled to the bank, and placed it in the box. On the way home, one question remained: locking away the paper eased the worry of storing it day to day, but using the wallet later should not depend on a hurried attempt to recall where the envelope was or how to retrieve it.

The backup now had a fixed place. Sisyphus could also see the next self-custody problem more clearly: security and access both needed planning. Sisyphus intended to write a personal note explaining the retrieval steps without copying the recovery phrase. Until then, the arrangement was still incomplete.
