Since the burn was increased, the community had watched how much of the monthly balance actually entered the furnace. As a Sentry node operator, the Night Watchman could check the on-chain record. The narrator was facing legal work billed by the hour; the two viewed the same burn on different time scales.
The unused balance of this month’s gas subsidy went into the furnace. After checking it, the Night Watchman posted the burn transaction hash in the chat and said only, “A little more burned than last month.” Looking at the record, the narrator thought that the on-chain fire was measured by month while the law firm billed by hour. He did not present the increased burn as money available for immediate fees.
