After years of running a Sentry node, the Night Watchman was watching other group members learn to handle alerts. One of them was unsure what a screenshot could establish. He worried that treating the red warning box as the whole story would hide the changes leading up to it.
When someone asked whether an alert screenshot was enough, he replied, “Keep the logs from before and after it too. A screenshot cannot show the cause.” The member said the logs were too long to post where anyone would read them. The Night Watchman suggested marking the alert time and the relevant passages, while retaining the complete record for a closer look if needed.
The question had shifted from saving an image to making an alert reviewable by others. He planned a short guide for new operators, though he still needed a way to label excerpts clearly so that no one would mistake a few selected lines for the entire sequence.
