A Moving Figure Reopens the Subtitle Question

Background: After Final Form was released, the writer kept the two paper mockups previously used to check subtitle placement. Today: The writer sat again in the marked position and played the demo clip from the beginning. Implication and next step: The next read-through therefore gained one concrete check: when the dialogue has been read, can the character’s movement still be seen?

A creative chronicle combining project history with imagined scenes. Story events are not verification of network activity.

Background: After Final Form was released, the writer kept the two paper mockups previously used to check subtitle placement. At the same font size, moving the subtitles upward avoided the edge of the screen but covered the character. The comparison of still frames had not yet answered what would happen when the character moved.

Today: The writer sat again in the marked position and played the demo clip from the beginning. When the character passed through the subtitle area, he paused the frame, noted beside the paper mockups where the obstruction began and ended, and then resumed playback. The overlap he had circled now had a before and an after; it could not be solved merely by moving the subtitle away from one face in one frame.

Implication and next step: The next read-through therefore gained one concrete check: when the dialogue has been read, can the character’s movement still be seen? The writer placed the clip and the paper mockups together for comparison in the same session. The subtitle position remains unresolved.
