A holiday thank-you and the smaller-key riddle

Thanksgiving had arrived. He posted thanks to “every laptop still online” and reminded fellow operators to check who would keep an eye on their nodes if they stepped away during the holiday. The thanks briefly let the operators acknowledge one another; the smaller-key hint drew attention back to an undisclosed plan.

Thanksgiving had arrived. The Night Watchman had long operated a Sentry node, but after the previous evening’s name dispute and a stream of teasers, people in the group were still watching their screens for the next message. He wanted to say something outside that argument.

He posted thanks to “every laptop still online” and reminded fellow operators to check who would keep an eye on their nodes if they stepped away during the holiday. That evening, the project teased another riddle: first there had been keys; now there were “smaller keys.” Guesses spread through the group, but no one knew what the new phrase meant.

The thanks briefly let the operators acknowledge one another; the smaller-key hint drew attention back to an undisclosed plan. The Night Watchman decided to list the node matters that truly needed follow-up and wait for an explanation before judging the new keys. He still needed to ask other operators whether they could look out for one another during the holiday.
