He began the annual node report by recording more than 300 days of full attendance and an unspecified number of wins, then wrote, “No complaints.” Reading the draft again, he saw that those words hid the upgrade reminders, the arrangements needed to keep watch, and the fatigue of sometimes wanting to step away from the screen. He changed the report from a list of achievements into a chronological account of the work.

Before the upgrade, the Night Watchman planned to add how he handled alerts and when he needed help from other operators, so new holders could see the everyday judgments behind staying online. The burden of operating after the expansion would become clear only in practice.
