Liquidity Improves While Risk and XAI Leverage Rise
Pressure eased to 54 as Treasury cash fell and net dollar liquidity rose, but credit spreads, equity stress and XAI derivatives exposure increased.

Liquidity pressure eased from 55 to a neutral 54 on October 15. Net dollar liquidity rose by $43 billion to $5.870 trillion on October 14 as Treasury cash fell $34.391 billion to $885.823 billion; the Federal Reserve balance sheet increased $8 billion to $6.756 trillion. Overnight reverse repo balances rose $1 billion to $1.201 billion, while the SOFR-IORB spread moved from -1 to -2 basis points. The Federal Reserve’s October 15 H.4.1 release separately reports an $885.823 billion Treasury General Account for October 14. This supports modest liquidity improvement, not causation.
Risk readings moved the other way. The high-yield spread widened 9 basis points to 325 while the 10-year real yield fell 4 basis points to 2.84%. The S&P 500 lost 86.51 points, the Nasdaq 100 lost 618.66 and the semiconductor index lost 524.41; their drawdowns deepened to 1.28%, 4.08% and 20.16%, and VIX rose 1.60 to 16.87. Top-one, top-three and top-ten concentration edged lower, while the Magnificent Seven weight rose 0.10 percentage point to 35.0%.
XAI closed at $0.00861 on October 15, down $0.00026, as recorded spot volume rose $106,239.90 to $714,422.30. Open interest increased $146,690.50 to $1.900 million by October 16 and funding rose from 0.001305% to 0.005%. Holder, sentry-holder, sentry-key and pool-staker counts were unchanged in their new observations; the labelled six-month balance measure increased only 0.017688 million XAI. Higher open interest and funding alongside a lower close indicate more derivatives exposure without identifying traders or proving a link to the macro readings.
