Treasury Cash Drain Meets a Broader Risk Selloff
Pressure rose to 56 but stayed neutral as Treasury cash absorbed liquidity, credit spreads widened and equity stress increased while XAI activity cooled.

Liquidity pressure rose one point to 56 but remained neutral on October 23. Treasury cash increased $16.606 billion to $961.759 billion on October 22, while net dollar liquidity fell $17 billion to $5.791 trillion. Overnight reverse repo declined $151 million, too little to offset the Treasury drain. High-yield spreads widened 13 basis points to 340, the ten-year real yield fell 12 basis points to 2.64%, and the SOFR-IORB gap moved two basis points to zero.
Risk assets weakened together. By October 23, the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100 and semiconductor indexes had fallen 133.49, 864.99 and 726.10 points from their reviewed baselines; their drawdowns deepened to 2.5%, 7.26% and 26.34%, while VIX rose 2.77 to 19.45. Top-one and top-ten concentration eased 0.25 and 0.52 percentage point. XAI closed at $0.00791 on October 24, with spot volume down to $338,691 and recorded open interest down $150,413.70 to $1,600,016.90. The alignment shows tighter liquidity and broader risk reduction, not proof that either caused XAI’s move.
