Final Form Chooses Where Players Make Their Moves

After several days of discussing decks and battles, Ex Populus needed a clear design direction for the early form of Final Form. At Monday’s meeting, the team settled on an auto-battler direction for the Final Form concept: fewer actions during combat, with more weight placed on building a deck. With that direction set, the earlier debate about powerful cards gained a test: did a card create interesting deck-building choices, or merely win faster?

A creative chronicle combining project history with imagined scenes. Story events are not verification of network activity.

After several days of discussing decks and battles, Ex Populus needed a clear design direction for the early form of Final Form. The question was not whether to remove player decisions, but whether those decisions belonged mainly in deck building or in actions taken each round.

At Monday’s meeting, the team settled on an auto-battler direction for the Final Form concept: fewer actions during combat, with more weight placed on building a deck. Someone worried that watching a fight might feel passive, so the team chose a focus for further design work: could card combinations help players anticipate a strategy and understand the result as the battle unfolded?

With that direction set, the earlier debate about powerful cards gained a test: did a card create interesting deck-building choices, or merely win faster? The rules still needed work, particularly the link between choices made before battle and the feedback players received during it.
