The previous day's promise of “a new era” had left LAMO players waiting for an answer. The answer was an acquisition: Ex Populus brought LAMO under its wing and hired a new game director for it. LAMO had gone from a long-quiet project to one for which the studio had to assign people and set a direction.

A creative chronicle combining project history with imagined scenes. Story events are not verification of network activity.

The previous day's promise of “a new era” had left LAMO players waiting for an answer. At the same time, Ex Populus had to sustain development of its existing games through an industry downturn and explain why it was still willing to expand its slate.

The answer was an acquisition: Ex Populus brought LAMO under its wing and hired a new game director for it. Seeing the studio buy rights and add staff in a harsh market, some took it as a commitment to keep making games; others asked what the new team would tackle first. The internal discussion turned to allocating resources. Word also spread that the strategic meeting would have a one-word subject: “chain.”

LAMO had gone from a long-quiet project to one for which the studio had to assign people and set a direction. The teaser now had substance. The acquisition, however, did not explain how development would proceed, and the new director still had to connect with the existing work. Whether “chain” would become a requirement, a research topic, or a decision remained for the strategic meeting.
